Role in the Musical and Films[]

July is a mother figure to all. She is the sweetest while not exactly the prettiest. In the official novelization and the original version of the play she is said to be the third oldest of the orphans at age 12(with only Pepper and Duffy being older than her). In the current version of the play, July is 13 with Duffy.

According to the official novelization July was brought to the orphanage with no name so Ms. Hannigan just named her July since she was abandoned on the Fourth of July. July might be the sweetest but she still stands up for what she believes is right. For example, in the play, when Pepper was yelling at Molly, July told her to leave Molly alone. The two started to fight and Annie had to tell Pepper to leave both Molly and July alone.

In the original 1982 movie, July is seen sleeping until an annoyed Pepper complains about Molly and steps on her, causing her and Duffy to fight back. Annie tells them to cut it out and to go back to bed. Later, Miss Hannigan forces July get dressed and start cleaning. When Annie hides in the laundry cart, July tells Annie, "You're gonna get us in trouble." July and her pals help Annie escape. Annie then gets taken back to the orphanage with a dog named Sandy. She sings, "We could call him Tiger." Later, when Annie and Sandy get chosen to spend a week with Oliver Warbucks she and the other orphans wave goodbye. That night, July lays awake in bed singing, "Maybe she's made me a closet of clothes." When the orphans are going on strike, they outsmart Miss Hannigan with a dead mouse. July, also dances to "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile." When Molly informs her about Miss Hannigan's cruel plan, she tries to escape but is locked away. She and Pepper and the other orphans escape from the orphanage and with the help of Sandy the dog, they warn Mr. Warbucks about Annie being kidnapped. July is, then celebrating the Fourth of July with her new sisters, Annie, Molly, Pepper, Duffy, Tessie and Kate wearing a pink and white dress with a pink and blue bow in her brown hair and white socks and white gloves and pearly white shoes, watching the fireworks.

In the Disney 1999 film, July tells Pepper and Kate to leave Molly alone because they are being mean to her. Pepper and the orphans fight with July until Annie tells to stop and warns them if Miss Hannigan wakes up, she will be angry. July is sung to sleep and Annie gives her her doll. July then sings "It's The Hard Knock Life" and is glad that Annie is free. When Annie is going away for Christmas, She and the other orphans cheer. She also dances to "You're Never Fully Dressed Without a Smile." When July and her orphan pals black mail Lily, they run to Oliver Warbucks's mansion and stop Rooster and his sister from pretending to be Annie's parents. With Rooster and Lily arrested and Miss Hannigan taken away forever, July celebrates Christmas and gets adopted with Annie and Sandy and the other orphans by Oliver and Grace.
